Ever find yourself laying in bed and not able to sleep because of the rough day you have had in Motherhood.
Some days I feel there is so much noise and chaos I can’t collect my thoughts together to think clearly. I fall into bed on those days and wish I could have a “do-over”. Laying there, questioning myself about why I feel so out of sorts, I should’ve of done this or should’ve done that. It’s all a “should-of… could-of… would-of kinda thing. But why do I feel like I am gonna have “Mom-Tantrums” … so quick… so snappy?? The kids may not always see what I am feeling on the inside but were days I feel so mentally exhausted I just want to explode. I don’t know how many times I said to myself, “What is wrong with me?!”
So what is my first line of defense when it comes to figuring stuff out? I need to first pause and decompress. I put on my shoes and moved my body to relieve the tension in my body and mind. Nothing like a “Quickie Workout” to get me going into the direction of clarity.
What I realized was … I was lacking connection. The kids were lacking connection. You may be scratching your head wondering what I mean. Well … I noticed a pattern.
I was so tired and frustrated that I was craving alone time. Silence. A break. I solo parent 4 kids for the most of the year and I also work from home. There is always needs and wants and things that needed to get done. My head gets fuzzy and it becomes overwhelming at times.
Guess what I was doing to get a “break”?? I was reaching for my phone … maybe waste about 20mins (easily) scrolling thru nothing. I could be in the middle of laundry and completely became distracted by the device. I was just needing a mental break…. but it actually was a complete waste of time and never left me feeling recharged. During my “break” the kids were actually needing me for things and I would become frustrated and shutdown… even a little resentful for being interrupted. They would pick up on my energy and mirror my energy. They were cranky, needy and overwhelmed as well because they were also feeling the disconnect. It was like a big cycle of stress.
Post workout I was able to pinpoint what was happening. Than I could figure out how to fix our issue… become more connected.
It was amazing how I could just make a couple small changes and energy and moods had shifted for everyone.
